Glossary
Administrator - Someone who helps maintain the community at AskNature. Administrators have all the privileges of an Editor, and in addition can promote new editors and send system messages.Avatar - An image that will represent you on the site. For example, a picture of you or your favorite animal.
Creative Commons - A system to easily indicate the terms of use on copyrighted content. Facilitates sharing within a set of guidelines. For more info, see CreativeCommons.org.
Editor - An AskNature expert tasked with creating and reviewing content on the site. In adition, editors may moderate the discussion forums and remove comments that have been flagged as objectionable.
Profile - A spot where you can share information about yourself with the AskNature community. Posting information about yourself will enable other people in your area, or with similar interests to find and connect with you. Your profile may include a few paragraphs about yourself, your occupation(s) and activities, links to other websites, pictures, and embedded video content.
Taxonomy - A system of classifying scientific data in a heirarchy. Taxonomies are typically tree-like structures consisting of nodes called taxa (singular: taxon) and the relationships between parent and child taxa. At AskNature, much of our data is arranged taxonomically, primarily using the Biomimicry Taxonomy.
Watchlist - Your watchlist is a list of content pages you would like to monitor. When items on your watchlist are updated, or commented on, you will be notified either by email, or by message on AskNature (see your Profile > Settings for email preferences).
