About
I work as a Biologist at the Design Table for The Biomimicry Institute and also work with the Biomimicry Guild. It's the perfect job for me, incorporating science, research, writing, speaking, creativity, fun and inspiring co-workers, and lots and lots of learning.

I live in Stevensville, Montana. Raised in Madison, Wisconsin, I found out in time that I'm a westerner at heart. I've also lived in Wyoming and Idaho, and have been here in Montana for 14 years.

I feel I'm at home, both living in Montana and being immersed in Biomimicry.

HI SHERRY!
I have chosen the first approach u talked about.I reviewed the website and found some interesting issues; one about the ventilation system that prairie dogs use by their burrow shape tunnels . i want to work on passive ventilation system in buildings which can be performed beside green living walls-roofs , green shutters etc.
now i want to find a good example in biological world.
the best ecosystem or mechanism that can be the sample of my designing.
i will be glad if u help me more!

Hi Sherry, Thanks for putting together slideshows such as "Stay Warm featured strategies". I am hoping to use it as another resource example to show teachers how to introduce biomimicry into the curriculum in a couple of introductory presentations. Karen

HI Sherry,

I posted the call for Design Strategist to the TED Fellows posterous blog. Over 5,000 views usually, so hope it helps bring you some web savvy people. Colleen

Hi Sherry,
Thanks so much for your email about the Digital Design Strategist position. I just asked my partner if he'd consider moving to Missoula, MT or San Francisco. His sister lives in SF, so I'm looking forward to his reply :-) Lenni

Hello Sherry,
My passion is set on biomimicry as my future profession and I am nearing the end of my second to last year at school. I am studying AS Chemistry and Biology and plan do go on to do A2 in both subjects next year-are these subjects sufficient as qualifications for biomimicry? (I would continue with biology and perhaps chemistry at university level)
Thanks for your help,
-Margaux

I see that you've mentioned about biomimcry workshops being held at different places ...How can i attend one of these workshops? and also can i approach the Biomimicry Guild's and The Biomimicry Institute to conduct a workshop here in india?

Dear Sherry,

I am trying to create a topic in the discussion forum of a group I just created - viral promo. It is displaying a message saying "You do not have the necessary access privileges to create a topic in this forum" Can you help me ?

Kind regards,

Dear Sherry

Sorry for the late reply, I keep overlooking the new messages, especially as I don't receive notifications of them.

The article needs one more feedback loop from the professor before it is finished, than I´d be happy to send it to you.

It is both about nature to design as challenge to nature, by taking inspiration from lifes principles, and methodically searching for answers in the natural domain.

In a nutshell, the article discusses how biomimicry can be used by industrial design engineers in a realistic way, and whether it yields interesting and sustainable designs as a result. A difficult topic, as you will read in the article later.

To which adress can I send the article? I can allready send you some preview pictures of the design and how biology found its way into it. Mind you, the design is only a concept, it has not been fully build (a windtunnel prototpye only) and will not be produced! Still I feel it can serve as a showcase how to work with biomimicry.

We'll keep in touch,

kind regards,

Ernst-Jan Mul

Hi Sherry, thanks very much for that feedback on cost-benefit analyses in harvester termites. Interesting to think broadly about the other ramifications you mention and also transport of materials in other species.

Please could you advise what is the best way to post comments for discussions on asknature.org - for example to include everyone in the South Africa Group in such a debate?

Thanks again!

Hi Sherry,

I am an educator in Litchfield, CT and I run a biotech program for 6 schools in the state. I have instituted a year-long biomimicry project for all the biotech students (approximately 130) and I am looking to book a speaker in biomimicry to kick off our first meeting. The meeting will occur in October of this year and I would like to find someone to speak broadly about this field for approximately 45 minutes. The Biomimicry Guild suggested I post my request here as they are too busy to provide a speaker. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Do you know of anyone in my area or are you ever out this way?

Cheers,
Carolyn

Hi Sherry,

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I couldn't make the Leshiba workshop and still have not read Janine's book, so my knowledge on the intricacies of Biomimicry is still limited. However having spent some time with Janine at Sabi Sabi, I am inspired to learn more. I have posted an article 'Some biomimicry ideas worth exploring in a South African context'. I would appreciate it if you could maybe glean through these and suggest whether you think these are in line with Biomimicry principles? The other article is more generalized Animal Behaviour questions not necessarily biomimcicry related but may also evoke some interest and ideas.

By the way Montana sounds fantastic - I'm I correct that Janine also lives there?

Kind regards
Rael

Dear Sherry,

Apologies for this late reaction, unfortunately I overlooked the comment you placed.
The eco-mover.nl website is indeed linked to the bio inspired scooter project, although the version shown was a concept focussed on the human-product interaction instead of the bio inspired construction of the scooter. As a part of my graduation project I introduced this perspective to the project.
A website of this part of the project is not available. I'll attach a rendering of the first concept to the comment, which is now build for windtunnel testing. In the next two months things will take more shape, and I'll be happy to provide you with more information on the results and possible further research beyond this graduation project.

kind regards from the Netherlands,

Ernst-Jan Mul
