About
I'm an architect and Managing Director of Shaw Sustainable Design Solutions of Illinois, LLC, — an integrated firm providing comprehensive sustainable design services.  I'm involved in sustainably-oriented projects nation-wide in high-performance building, energy efficiency, green infrastructure, and clean energy.

I also chair the board of Resource Center,  a Chicago-based nonprofit focused on urban agriculture and extreme recycling. I serve as adjunct associate professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and am on the board of the American Institute of Architects for the Chicago chapter and the Illinois Council.

Learning from nature is essential to good architecture. At the University of Oregon, where I got my degree, using the services nature provides was high on the agenda. Biomimicry takes that serveral steps further to, in theory, leapfrog ahead of conventional technological progress. That is an exciting prospect and one in which I'd like to be more involved.

Recent Projects:
  • ARRA and EECBG program design and implementation for the State of Louisiana (ongoing)
  • Zero-energy/zero-carbon research facility for the Florida Intitute of Technology (ongoing)
  • Natural Resources Defence Council, Chicago offices (2009)
  • Rooftops to Rivers, a 600 acre green infrastructure design in two urban neighborhoods of Aurora, Illinois (2008-2009)
