On a personal level, biomimicry has been a part of my life since before I knew what it was. As someone who grew up in rural South Dakota running countless thousands of miles in the countryside in solitude and enjoying hugely profound moments star gazing under big skies, I realized that much had preceeded my brief moment in time on this planet. It was during my long runs that I contemplated about farming practices and how I had lived in a place
largely devoid of virgin landscapes, and yet it was this same place that
had sustained both animals and people for thousands of years before farmers settled here. That place was gone and I had never seen it nor did I know of anyone who could recount it. And now it is many years later, and these undeniable influences have surfaced, and I am compelled to articulate what this means to me today.
I have always sensed my presence on this planet as an amazing stroke of luck. Yet, here I am... so I decided to roll up my sleeves and get to work some time ago with "green building" efforts. However, I believe that it is biomimicry principles that will lead us to reconnect to our world and become a part of it again. All of our other endeavors will remain topical until we can figure out how to do this. I am committed to learning as much as I can and assisting in the creation of a biomimicry community through my spheres of influence and in my own practice.
