Itumeleng Molobela holds a PhD in Microbiology specialization in water. She joined the University of South Africa, College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Department of Civil and Chemical engineering at the beginning of 2011, under the Water Flagship programme. She has been appointed as a Post Doc Researcher. Within the College, Itumeleng also interact in terms of projects with the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Itumeleng has written several journal articles and has authored and co-authored in scientific books. She has attended several water related conferences and her work had major contribution in the conference proceedings. Her research interests include projects related to water and the environment; microbial biofilm control and removal in the water industry, biofouling, biocorrosion and biotechnology. Itumeleng is an optimist, a chancer who takes initiatives and does not limit herself in terms of project engagement and other activities such as workshops and conferences.
Itumeleng has identified an intelligent young matriculant during community engagement took place early this year in one of the disadvantaged secondary school in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. The matriculant has been engaged with projects in the Civil and chemical department and has been given a platorm to compete with the academics in other activities within the department. Itumeleng's great achievements and hard working has been honoured by the Dean of the School Prof Mamokgethi Setati.
