My professional background is Information Technology Architecture and technical project management in charge of major infrastructure implementations at IBM. I have worked with the Biomimicry Guild and Biomimicry Institute on a number of initiatives, including coordinating university education activities and improving communications within the biomimicry community. I edit the quarterly BioInspired! Newsletter and maintain various online information sources (Clippings, Resources, Events).
I have taught courses and workshops on bio-inspired design at the Ontario College of Art and Design, the University of Toronto and the Design Exchange.
My primary interest is in 'deep patterns', biomimetic design processes and sustainability. I am currently leading a team researching how the 'pattern language' concept could add additional detail to the ecosystem principles and help designers incorporate increased sustainability into their work (see Patterns from Nature Wiki).

I am a final year Education student looking to encorpoarte biomimicry in my final year project. On completion of my course I will be teaching Woodwork, Construction Studies, Technical Drawing, Design and Communication Graphics and some Technology at second level.
I was thinking of perhaps looking to show the benefits of employing biomimicry for inspiration at the design stage of pupil projects. I will be teaching in a school for 10 weeks this year and could encorporate the project into some of my lessons by requesting some sketched solutions to some briefs, showing the areas of difficulty experienced by the pupils and then solving these briefs myself with nature as my inspiration. I could then make each of my solutions ( example; 6 briefs solved- one for each stage of second level).
I have my doubts on how appropriate this topic is to my subject areas and to how beneficial the process of lookijng to biomimicry for inspiration in these subjects would actually be. Also, I am yet to decide on what kind of briefs to solve.
Any advice would be greatfully welcomed,
