I am an architecture masters student. My thesis is to design the envelope for an office building that takes advantage of passive energy- sun and wind for heating and cooling- by mimicking the local plants and animals of the site. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Currently thinking about piloerection/ double envelope with air space or vascular system of solar heated piping.

What an interesting and inspiring project you are working on. See the new architectural project of the vandusen botanic garden at vancouver. Very interesting building. A presentation is given here : http://cascadiapublic.s3.amazonaws.com/LF09%20Presentations/FriPM/LF09_Biomimicry.pdf
